BrainModes is an international meeting designed to bring together scientists
from theoretical, experimental and clinical disciplines within the
Neurosciences to explore the role of oscillations in brain function. This
year's focus will be the role of oscillations in neurological disorders with
the emphasis on the following four areas:
- Epilepsy
- Movement Disorders
- Neuroendocrine Malfunction
- Neurodegenerative Disease
Within each theme there will be a blend of talks from world leading experts
spanning the different disciplines, with ample time available for informal
discussions and interactions. As part of our ongoing commitment to the
development of young scientists in this exciting area of research, the first
day of the workshop will be devoted to introductory talks on some of the
commonly used theoretical and experimental methodologies.
The meeting is organized by the Bristol Centre for Applied Nonlinear Mathematics.
Further the London Mathematical Society has
provided 5 bursaries towards the costs of attending the
conference for UK based Ph.D. students whose research area is
predominately mathematical. To apply for one of these bursaries, which consists
of a full fee waiver plus £ 100 towards travel and subsistence, please
arrange for your supervisor to contact J.R.Terry@bristol.ac.uk with a letter of
support, outlining the mathematical content of your Ph.D. and how attendance at
the workshop will be of benefit to your career development.
In line with the open nature of the meeting, we encourage people at all
stages of their career to submit posters on their research related to the above
themes, which will be displayed throughout the workshop. A "science cafe" style
event, enabling members of the public to engage with participants of the
meeting to promote research in the area of epilepsy is being organized as part
of the conference.
