Travelling to the University of Bristol

By Air

  • Bristol airport is only nine miles from the city centre. There is a dedicated non-stop bus service to Bristol Bus & Coach Station - the "Bristol Flyer". The journey takes approximately 30 minutes, tickets can be purchased onboard the coach. The service operates every 15 minutes from 6:45am to 7:30pm, and roughly every 30 minutes from 7:30pm until 11:45pm daily. The return fare is about £8 for adults. Alternatively, take a taxi direct from the airport. Fares are about £25 each way to most points in the city centre.
  • Heathrow airport, 10 miles to the west of London, is the closest of the London airports to Bristol. The easiest way to Bristol is by coach, number FK200, FK201 or FK202 - a 2 hour journey, with coaches leaving approximately every hour. The coach arrives at Bristol Bus & Coach Station. The return fare is about £38.00 for adults. Travelling by train is a little more involved (and much more expensive) journey, and involves taking the "Heathrow Express" into London Paddington station, and changing trains for Bristol Temple Meads (see below).
  • Gatwick airport also has a direct coach service to Bristol, also number FK200, FK201 or FK202, taking about 3.5 hours, leaving approximately every hour. The coach arrives at Bristol Bus & Coach Station. The return fare is about £44.00 per adult. Do check the times on the web (see address below). By train, it's a 3 hour journey, changing trains at Reading.
  • Travelling from the majority of other UK airports is most easily achieved by train or coach (see below).

By Train

The most convenient train station for the Univeristy precinct is the main station in the centre of Bristol, Bristol Temple Meads - note that Bristol has a second main line station, Bristol Parkway, but this is a long way from the city centre, so is best avoided. Trains from London leave London Paddington station every half hour during the day. Bristol Temple Meads is also served by direct trains from most other major cities in the UK. Train timetables are available from National Rail's website and fares from thetrainline.com (registration necessary for the latter).

By Coach

Coaches arrive at the Bristol Bus & Coach Station on Marlborough Street. More information on coach travel is available from the National Express website.
