Abstract
Bifurcation analysis of two pulse-coupled integrate-and-fire neurons is used to determine the importance of pulse width, propogation delay and shunting for periodic firing patterns. In contrast to models lacking these simple diological features, stable asynchronous behaviour is easily established for reciprocal excictary coupling between neurons.
