Travel guidance
We expect that the majority of students will fly to the UK. There are several options:
- Fly to London Heathrow / London Gatwick. These are the largest international airports
in the world and have flights to and from a very wide variety of destinations.
One should take the coach to Bristol (a 2 or 3 hour journey) and this
should be booked in advance.
Timetables are also available at this site.
DO NOT take the train from the London airports to Bristol - this is extremely expensive!
- Fly to Bristol. This is the most convenient option: however, Bristol Airport is small
and has few flights. However,
-
British Airways fly to/from Frankfurt.
-
KLM fly to/from Amsterdam.
-
The budget airlines
Ryanair and
Easyjet fly to/from many places: e.g.
Belfast, Barcelona, Dublin, Nice, Prague, Venice.
There is a cheap connecting coach from Bristol Airport to the Bus station,
then follow directions as given below.
- Fly a budget airline to some other airport.
Ryanair,
Easyjet and
BMI offer very cheap tickets if one books far ahead and uses the
web. However, the airport you fly to may be some distance from Bristol. Some comments on
these airports:
- Cardiff is close to Bristol and involves only a short bus/coach journey.
Strongly recommended: good connections with BMI.
- Birmingham International is about 2 to 3 hours away by train.
- London Stansted serves many destinations but is 5 hours from Bristol
by coach (which may be booked online as in the instructions for London Heathrow).
- East Midlands is very inconvenient.
Bristol Temple Meads railway station / Bristol Bus & Coach Station to Hiatt-Baker Hall
There are taxi ranks at both Bristol Temple Meads and the Bristol Bus &
Coach Station, from where you can take a taxi up to "Hiatt-Baker Hall
of residence, Parrys Lane, Stoke Bishop". Alternatively, take the number
41 or 42 bus from Bristol city centre. See
directions and bus company timetables.
