See also: The Satellite Graduate School on "Computational Methods for Dynamical Systems" on 4th-7th Sept as part of the UK Dynamical Systems Graduate School. This was the fifth international workshop of the Bristol Centre for Applied Nonlinear Mathematics, funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Research Council (EPSRC). The workshop consisted of two parts. The first part ran from Monday September 10 through to Thursday September 13 and focussed on four real world challenges that are the focus of a recently funded £2 million EPSRC grant. These are Hybrid Testing of Engineering Systems, Mechanical Transmission Systems, Physiology of Oscillations in Biomechanics and Modelling the Physiology of the Human Brain. The second part of the workshop focussed on Neuroscience and incorporated the annual meeting of the Leverhulme Trust Theoretical Neuroscience Network. Due to the closely related nature of the fourth real world challenge and this Network, the meetings shared a common day on Thursday September 13 and continued on Friday September 14. With regards to the annual meeting of the Theoretical Neuroscience Network, there was the opportunity for participants to present contributed talks on the Friday. OrganisersConfirmed speakers
The Bristol Centre for Applied Nonlinear Mathematics is a £1.1 million EPSRC critical mass research centre and one of the largest mathematics projects ever funded in the UK. There was the opportunity for participants to presenter posters on topics relating to the four themes of the meeting, as well as a limited number of slots for contributed presentations. |
