Our interests centre
on sub-symbolic approaches to machine intelligence.
On the theoretical side we are interested in statistical learning theory,
support vector
machines,
neural
networks and the design of learning algorithms.
On the applied side we are interested in the applications
of these methods to medical
decision support,
bioinformatics
and machine vision datasets. We are part of the
Advanced Computing
Research Centre which has a number of other researchers interested
in different aspects of artificial intelligence. There is also an
Artificial
Intelligence group in our department with an interest in machine
intelligence from a high-level symbolic perspective.
